This statue is a hand painted scale replica of the statue of St Valentine which was commissioned in 1951 for the shrine containing the saint’s relics in Whitefriar Street Church. The saint is depicted in the vestments proper for the celebration of Mass, with the red chasuble being worn for the commemoration of martyrs, the apostles and the Holy Spirit. The palm branch in his hands is the palm of victory symbolising the martyrs who shed their blood for Christ and overcame the evil of this world. The bare feet remind us of innocence, simplicity and modesty.
This unique statue is produced in China exclusively for Whitefriar Street Church.
